With more than 150 vehicles in his fleet, Bill Rogers was hunting through lots of haystacks to find the “needles”—information he needed to make the decisions that would save ServiceSource some money.
But with help from GPS Trackit’s suite of fleet analytics, Rogers was able to turn hours-long detective missions into simple visuals he could evaluate at a glance. “We have a risk management program company-wide, and one of my goals is to reduce at-fault accidents,” Rogers says of the Washington D.C.-based custodial services company. “With GPS Trackit, when somebody goes six miles over the speed limit, I’m going to get an email, the driver’s supervisor is going to get an email, and it runs right up the chain. You can get summaries for whatever you want to be checking—speed alerts or other activity.”
Driver Behavior
The GPS Trackit platform aggregates everything from vehicle location to individual and fleet-wide fuel mileage to specific driver behaviors like idling and aggressive acceleration, braking, and speeding. The easy-to-understand dashboard comes pre-configured with the most popular key performance indicators and fleet analytics, but the flexibility of the reporting interface lets managers sort and prioritize the data to match their operational goals. Many GPS Trackit clients create programs that reward efficient and safe drivers or identify ones that would benefit from additional training.
Real-time vehicle tracking system
Thanks to the real-time vehicle tracking system Service Source has installed, Rogers says the cost and efficiency benefits have included reduced insurance premiums, fewer lost days to vehicles under repair, and reduced employee turnover. Rogers even used the GPS beacons in his vehicles to prove to his insurer that he wasn’t using some of them during the Covid shutdown—which resulted in thousands of dollars of savings per month. “At first the insurance company didn’t believe that we could prove the vehicles would stay inactive,” he says. “One of the only ways to get it to happen was to prove it, and GPS tracking made it much easier to do that.”
GPS Trackit’s fleet analytics
GPS Trackit’s fleet analytics update in real-time, which means fleet coordinators like Rogers have the ability to react to trends in the data as they emerge instead of having to wait for a monthly or quarterly report. That lets operators deploy their vehicles and solve problems more quickly and efficiently. Instead of being reactive, Rogers can be proactive. And the time- and location-based analytics make for a powerful tool for building accurate payroll records. “If an employee says he or she is starting the day at, say. 5:30 AM, we have the ability to go back and cross reference and see that the vehicle didn’t even start until 7:15,” he says. “Now, employees understand that we know how they spend their time.”
