Volkswagen To Triple Battery Capacity With Lithium-Air Technology
Fossil fuels may not be the cleanest way of powering us between two points on a map, but there’s little doubt they offer convenience. So far, scientists have struggled to find batteries for electric cars that match the huge amounts of energy stored in a gallon of gasoline or diesel. As a result we get big, heavy batteries with relatively short range. Volkswagen thinks it may have found a way to triple that storage capacity though, with the latest generation of…
Audi To Add Plug-In Hybrid Models Of Next A6, A8 Sedans, Q7 SUV
Audi, in its search for alternatives to conventional propulsion, has finally nailed its colors to a mast–and that mast is plug-in hybrids. In addition to the A3 Sportback e-tron later this year and plans for a plug-in hybrid version of the A4, the German automaker could develop plug-in hybrid variants of the A6 and A8 sedans and the Q7 SUV, too. Speaking to Indian Autos Blog, Audi’s research and development chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg confirmed the plug-in models as a way of…

Mercedes’ most recent fuel-cell vehicle was based on the first-generation Mercedes B-Class in 2009, a compact front-wheel drive minivan not dissimilar from…
California Launches Country’s First All-Electric School Bus
It may not be capable of space travel, but one California district has found a magic school bus. The Kings Canyon Unified School District recently launched the first all-electric school bus in the United States, Inhabitat reports. The bus is a modified SST Trans Tech model based on a Ford E-Series van chassis, with an electric powertrain from Motiv Power Systems. It can carry 25 students and has an estimated range of between 80 and 100 miles. While this bus costs more than a comparable internal-combustion vehicle, it’s expected to…
